As you drive up the gentle hill and spot the dramatic Hotel Paxmontana on the crest, you will be immediately enchanted. Built in 1896 in the grand old Victorian resort style, the Paxmontana is a sprawling four-story mansion topped by a mansard roof with gabled windows, perky turrets, a Swiss flag, green shutters, and wraparound balconies. Although lager than most of the hotels in our guide, the Paxmontana has nostalgic, old-world character, impeccable upkeep, outstanding gardens, and the genuine hospitality of an intimate, family-run hotel. The lounges are spacious an attractively decorated. Stretching across the front is a delightful restaurant in a glass-enclosed porch where every table faces the window with an unobstructed view. A second, more formal, dining room has a charming forest view.

Right in the geografical centre of Switzerland, between Lucerne and Interlaken. From Lucerne take the highway A2, change at Hergiswil to A8 direction Interlaken, exit Sachseln. In Sachseln turn left to Flueeli-Ranft.

passing Lucerne: Always stay on Highway A2 direction Mount Gotthard; Pass exit signs Lucerne; You will drive through 3 tunnels; Approx. 5 km after lucerne stay on the right side of the highway; take the exit A8 on your right: direction Sarnen/Interlaken; Drive 10 km, take the Exit Sarnen Süd / Sachseln; Drive into Sachseln; In the center of the village Sachseln turn left direction Flüeli-Ranft; 7 minutes up to Flüeli-Ranft; Center of village Flüeli-Ranft turn left - you will see the hotel; Drive through the Pergola to the main entrance for unloading; Use free parking in the back of the hotel (sign); Here you are - a warm welcome to the Paxmontana
